(Online Course) English Grammar & Comprehension: Practice Exercises Multiple Choice - Passage 2

English Grammar & Comprehension
Practice Exercises Multiple Choice

Passage 2

At Burdwan, we were told, "Third class tickets are not booked so early." I went to the station master. He also made the same reply. As soon as the booking window opened, might was right and passengers, who were forward and indifferent to others, coming one after another continued to pushme out. I was therefore about the last of the first crowd to get a ticket. The train arrived and getting into it was another trial. I went to the guard. He said, "You must try to get in where you can, or take the next train." Much against my mind, I got into an inter class compartment with my wife. The guard saw us getting in. At Asansol Station he came to charge excess fares. I said to him, "It was your duty to find us room. We could not get any, and so arc sitting here." "Youmay not argue with me", said the guard, "I cannot accommodate you. You must pay the excess fare or get out." I wanted to reach Pune somehow, so I paid the excess fare demanded, but I resented the injustice.

The woes of third class passengers are undoubtedly due to the highhandedness of railway authorities. But the rudeness, dirty habits, selfishness and ignorance of the passengers themselves are no less to blame. The pity is that they often do not realise that they are behaving ill, dirtily or selfishly. They believe that everything they do is in the natural way. All this may be traced to the indifference towards them of us 'educated people'.

Study kit for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Exam (Assistant Commandant)

Posted: 18 Aug 2012 04:36 AM PDT

Central Armed Police Forces

(Assistant Commandants) Examination, 2012

Dear Aspirant,
As you all know The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Written Examination for recruitment of Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) viz. Border Security Force (BSF),Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The written examination will be conducted by Union Public Service Commission and will comprise two papers. Paper I is General Ability and Intelligence of 250 Marks. The questions in this paper will be of Objective (Multiple Answers) Type. Paper II is General Studies, Essay and Comprehension of 200 Marks. In this paper candidates will be allowed the option of writing the Essay Component in English or Hindi, but the medium of Precis Writing, Comprehension Components and other communications/language skills will be English only.

Preparation of this examination is very tuff, because in this exam. UPSC takes objective as well as Descriptive test simultaneously. In this way it is a very hard nut to crack. Because there will be minimum qualifying marks separately in each Paper as may be fixed by the Commission in their discretion. Paper-I will be evaluated first and evaluation of Paper-II will be done only of those candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I.

Thus you all have to focus on objective as well as descriptive preparation simultaneously.

So, we at UPSCPORTAL have devised a very focused & strategic Study Kit specially for CAPF (Assistant Commandant) Examination. We have specially made this kit for those aspirants who are either new to this paper or have studied it but not getting desired marks. You can see contents of study kit online & can decide whether this is fruitful for you. We are advising you to not study anything else other than our kit for this paper.
